Domestic Price Movement
Vietnam’s domestic black pepper market strengthened sharply over the past week, supported by tighter post-harvest supply and steady buying interest from exporters. The move was broad-based across key producing regions, suggesting the price increase was not limited to a single origin but reflected a wider tightening in available supply.
At week’s end, pepper prices across Vietnam’s key producing provinces ranged between VND 140,500–144,000/kg, up VND 2,000–3,000/kg from the prior week. Dak Lak and Dak Nong led at the highest price point, while Gia Lai recorded the lowest. The broad-based increase reflects tightening post-harvest supply and resilient demand from exporters.

*Post-harvest supply constraints are limiting available inventory, while export demand remains steady — creating upward pressure on farmgate prices.
Global Market Trend
Indonesia posted a slight decline in both black and white pepper, while Brazil ASTA 570 rebounded. Malaysia remained stable at premium levels.
This mixed movement suggests that global prices are not following a synchronized rally. Instead, Vietnam’s domestic strength appears to be driven more by local supply conditions and export coverage than by a broad global price surge.

International black pepper prices showed divergent trends this week. Indonesian prices edged lower while Brazilian prices rebounded, reflecting differing supply dynamics across major producing nations. Malaysia held steady at a premium level.

White pepper prices remained largely stable across major markets, with Indonesia posting a slight decline. Malaysia continues to command the highest premium, while Vietnam holds steady at a competitive mid-range price point.
Malaysia’s white pepper commands a 31% premium over its black pepper, reflecting higher processing costs and tighter supply. Vietnam’s white pepper at USD 9,000/t positions it competitively against Indonesia’s USD 9,178/t.
Export Performance: January – April 15
Vietnam’s pepper exports continue to show strong momentum. In the first 15 days of April alone, volume surged 28.6% year-over-year. Cumulative exports through mid-April reached 80,627 tons, up 37.9%, generating USD 522.6 million in revenue — a 29.8% increase.

While export volumes and total revenue are up significantly, the average export price of USD 6,482/ton is down 5.8% year-over-year, suggesting increased volume is partially offsetting lower per-unit pricing in global markets.
Supply Outlook: 2026 Forecast
Vietnam’s pepper production is projected to contract significantly in 2026, with output expected to fall 15–20% to between 170,000–180,000 tons. Global output is estimated at approximately 530,000 tons, with demand remaining strong across key importing markets.
